I am home for Christmas Eve this year. Last year my Christmas Eve started in London and I had a long Christmas Eve Flight to get home.
This year my beard is not quite as long as last year, but I have a bit more white in the mustache.
Today was another quiet day to bring the week to a close. It has been nice to have some days off of work and to catch up on some things around the house.
Early this morning I watched the Kevin Sullivan production ofย Anne of Green Gables.
On Black Friday I had watched the new PBS version of Anne of Green Gables and was a bit disappointed. I needed to watch a better version to get things back in order ๐
I also retrieved a book from one of my to-read stacks and have moved it to my read very soon stack. I now need to read Before Green Gables by Budge Wilson.
I may wait to read this on my trip to England next month, or it may get started before then.
On Thursday I found a good book to read on the New Book shelf at the library. Libertarians on the Prairie: Laura Ingalls, Rose Wilder Lane, and the Making of the Little House Books by Christine Woodside was quickly started as I wanted to learn more about the writing of the Little House books.
I found this book interesting as the author attempted to show how Rose Wilder Lane inserted her Libertarian beliefs into the Little House books. It has been a very badly kept secret that Rose Wilder Lane helped write the Little House books along with her mother. The only question to me has been how balanced the collaboration had been. This book along with others I have read in the past couple of years have provided us with a lot more information.
This also reminded me of another recent book acquisition. Little Author in the Big Woods: A Biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Yona Zeldis McDonough.
This is a book written for younger readers that I could probably read through in less than an hour. It may be on my agenda for next week ๐
Someday I want to write a little bit more about the migration patterns of Laura Ingalls’ family and show an interesting connection to some of my ancestors. I need to do a bit more research though.
After a long day of movies (I just finished watching Santa Clause 2), football, reading and just a tiny bit of shopping it is time for some sleep.
Merry Christmas!
