Genealogy Shows

Genealogy shows on TV have been very popular recently. One of my favorites has been Who Do You Think You Are? which originally aired on NBC in 2010. The show was on NBC for three years before being cancelled. It was then picked up by TLC and is now in Season 8.

I also like Genealogy Road Show and Finding Your Roots which are on PBS.

Amish Genealogy, Jacob Hochstetler, Descendants, Harvey HostetlerIt is always interesting to watch and see if one of my ancestors is covered in a show. I have seen several through the years of watching the shows.

I just found out today that some of my ancestors will most likely be in the next episode of Who Do You Think You Are? next Sunday.

The episode features Katey Sagal who has Amish ancestry and is a descendant of Jacob Hochstetler. I hope that they cover the Northkill Massacre as it is a defining event in his life and in Amish history.

Amish Socitey, John A. Hostetler, Amish, History, Northkill, First Amish BishopIn any case I am sure that they will share information about Amish Society and maybe even information about the First Amish Settlements.

A History of the Amish, Steven M. Nolt, Jacob Hertzler, Northkill, PennsylvaniaI do know Katey’s descent from Jacob Hochstetler who is her 7th Great Grandfather. I will not share much information until after the show airs. I want to see what information they share and then may add some additional items of interest in a new post.

Barbara Hochstedler, Christian Stutzman, Amish Genealogy, Harvey Hostetler, GenealogyI will give a clue though. In the book shown here, Descendants of Barbara Hochstedler and Christian Stutzman, her grandfather is entry #6026.

You can read more about this book in my post: Amish Genealogy Resources

You have to go back to our 5th Great Grandparents to find a common ancestor. To make it sound a little closer, our great great grandparents were second cousins.

I am really excited that finally one of the major Genealogy shows will feature someone with Amish ancestry.

Have you ever seen one of your ancestors on a Genealogy show?

Steven

I like and DVR those great shows. My ancestry is German/Irish, so it could be that my older ancestors were Amish. Have to get working on Ancestry.com to find out where it leads.
