Holland Town in the Afternoon

Yesterday I returned to Holland Town to take some pictures in the daylight. See my post Holland Town at Night.

You can also learn more about this unique area in Shanghai by visiting my previous post. The area is also known as Holland Village.

Holland Town, Holland Village, Shanghai, China, Pudong

Here is a much better picture of the church that is modeled after a church in the Netherlands. The mixture of old architecture and new building techniques is very interesting in this building.

Although it was a cloudy day, there was enough light to get a good reflection picture of this building. You can compare it with the picture I took the night before. See: Holland Town at Night

You can definitely see the Dutch influence on the architecture in this daylight picture.

Gaoqiao, Shanghai, Pudong, China, Holland Village, bell towerHere is a closeup of the cupola on the top of the building. You can see the bells and also a weather vane. The cupola looks like it could use a coat of paint, but is also looks very interesting with the rust.

Gaoqiao, Holland Town, Holland Village, Windmill, Shanghai, ChinaOf course, I also had to get daylight pictures of the windmill. This is my favorite since there is a nice reflection of the mill in the water. The building at the base is all boarded up now but at one time housed a photography business.

Gaoqiao, Holland Village, Holland Town, Pudong, Shanghai, China, Dutch Architecture There are several blocks of buildings of this style in Holland Town. These row houses are a very common sight in Amsterdam.

If you only look at the general architecture of the buildings in Gaoqiao you can get an image of Holland. However, it  doesn’t take long to realize that you are in China as you look at the details and the contents of the buildings.

  1. I love the rust in the third photo, what can be perceived as imperfections, add character and beauty. Beautiful post!
