A Little Archaeology

Tonight I thought I would share a few a few pictures that I have posted in the past of archaeological sites. The ones I share are just what are wandering into my mind as I am starting this post with no exact direction in mind.

Of course, I am thinking about Archaeology as I will be headed of to dig at Lachish in just over a month from now.

Tell Lachish, Ferrell Jenkins, Israel, Archaeology, Dig SeasonHere is a picture of the tel at Lachish. I am really looking forward to seeing this again. I took this picture during the last day of the tour of Israel that I took. See my post The Shephelah to see some of the other places we visited that day.

Omrit, Archaeology, Temple to AugustusWe only got close enough to this site to take pictures. This is a temple at Omrit that is thought by some to be the Temple to Augustus mentioned by Josephus. See my post North of Galilee to learn more about this picture and also see pictures of Hazor, Dan and Banias.

Tel-Abel - Abel Beth Maacah Israel Joab Sheba Head of ShebaAlso near Omrit is Tel-Abel or Abel of Beth-maacah. Do you know what happened at this city? You can find out what happened here as well as learn more about recent excavations by visiting my post Tel-Abel.

Tell es-Sultan - Walls of Jericho - Joshua - Walls Come Tumbling Down - Rahab - HarlotAnother place that I am thinking about tonight is Tell es-Sultan. You probably know this site by a different name. See my post Well Below Sea Level to find out what the more common name of this ruined city is. Actually this picture of the walls may give away the name.

Joshua, Gibeon, Heights of Gibeon, Nebi SamwilI shared this picture in my post Unfolding History. This is a picture of tel-Gibeon taken from Nebi Samwil. This loops us back to the first picture and Lachish. The King of Lachish was one of the five Amorite kings who encamped against Gibeon after they made the compact with Joshua.

Since I have looped back to the beginning I will bring this post to a close.

I am hoping to see most of these sites again when I am in Israel this summer.
