Tonight I ran across a Sunday newspaper magazine section from 1972 in a box of clippings that never made it into one of my Grandma’s Scrapbooks.
There were some very interesting ads, so I thought I would share a few of them with you.
Can you imagine this tag line today?
Pant Suits can be a whole new way of life for you?
My scanner is not large enough to capture the full page ad, but here is the top part of an ad for Walden Classics Pant Suits. The ad included a mail order coupon that you could use to order from Younkers. You could get a complete double knit polyester pant suit for only $22.
Does anybody remember this breakfast cereal from the early 70’s? It wasn’t around for too long.
There is a cute commercial for Kellogg’s Cocoa Hoots on youtube that features Newton the Owl.
Here is an ad for Campbell’s Home Style pork & beans. This ad also has a coupon where you can send in $1.00 along with a label to get a Hummel Wall Plaque of your choice.
I am not sure if this ad would go over too well today.
One great dish serves a great dish from Swanson.
Pat Lehman was the 1951 Miss California and at the time of this ad was a school teacher and mother of two boys. The clothing in the ad brings back some memories. I definitely dressed like these boys.
How long ago has it been since you have seen hair styled like Pat’s?
The magazine section also had five large tobacco ads. Something we definitely don’t see today. However, this was only about a year after tobacco ads were banned from TV and Radio. Newspapers and magazines were then the main media for tobacco ads.
I hope you enjoyed this little look at ads from 1972. They definitely brought back some memories for me.
Steven
Oh man, I had one of these.
