San Diego Zoo Giant Panda

I was randomly looking through folders of pictures tonight looking for inspiration and ran across some pictures from the San Diego Zoo that I took about seven years ago.

They made me think of a post that I wrote in August about Toronto Zoo Giant Pandas.

San Diego Zoo, Giant Pandas, Mural, Zoo, PandasI was in San Diego for a wedding and decided to visit the zoo during the day before going to the evening ceremony.

I really enjoyed this mural that was near the Giant Panda habitat. The large dragon flying over the Giant Pandas in the bamboo grove was really interesting.

Panda Viewing, San Diego Zoo, Giant Pandas, BambooI knew I was close to the Giant Panda enclosure when I saw this sign. The Giant Pandas like their peace and quiet. I also like the bamboo in the background of the picture.

Giant Panda, San Diego Zoo, Giant Panda, Mei ShengCan you see the Giant Panda in this picture? They are very well camouflaged when resting in a tree.

Luckily he didn’t lay around in the tree the whole time I was there.

Mei Sheng, Giant Panda, San Diego Zoo, Panda ExhibitThe Giant Panda here is Mei Sheng who was the second cub born at the zoo. The breeding program at the San Diego Zoo has been very successful. The mother of Wei Sheng is Bai Yun and the father is Gao Gao. There have been six cubs born at the San Diego Zoo and all but the youngest have been sent to China to participate in other breeding programs.

Mei Sheng, Giant Panda, San Diego ZooMei Sheng is now at the Bi Feng Xia Panda Base in Sichuan, China. He originally was sent to the Wolong National Nature Reserve, but was relocated after an earthquake devastated the reserve.

I thought that I was going to take a trip to San Diego earlier this year, but plans changed. I do know that if I visit there again a trip to the zoo will be in the plans.

Have you seen Giant Pandas?

Steven
