Vacation Checklist

My big vacation is rapidly approaching and I am slowly checking everything off of my vacation checklist.

Ferrell Jenkins - Turkey Tour - Ancient Crossroads - Israel Tour Guide - Tour GuideThe first item on the checklist for this vacation was to book an Ancient Crossroads Tour of Biblical & Historical Turkey. I booked my tour at the end of October last year, so I have been looking forward to this trip for a long time. See Turkey Time for my first post about the trip.

The tour is organized by Ferrell Jenkins. I went on a tour of Israel with Ferrell, and am really looking forward to this one.

The picture above was taken at Banais, which is the source of one of the main tributaries of the Jordan River.

Boeing 747 - United Airlines - Jumbo Jet - Double Decker Airplane - Classic JetOf course, one of the next items was to arrange my flights. I used some of my frequent flier miles and will join up with the tour in Munich for the flight to Ankara, Turkey.

I also acquired my visa so I can visit Turkey. If you are going to Turkey you must do this on-line. You can no longer purchase a visa at the airport in Turkey.

I also arranged a hotel near the airport since I have an early morning flight. I got a great deal on a stay, park and fly package. Old Blue will spend time in a parking garage at the hotel waiting for my return.

National Geographic - January 1958 - Turkey - Ancient Crossroads - Cappadocia - Turkey - Cave DwellingsThen some research. I have read a few books about Turkey and also several National Geographic articles. I will probably do even more reading after I return 🙂

New Camera - DSC-RX100M2 - Sony/Zeiss - Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T*I also bought a New Camera to take on the trip. I have field tested the camera a bit, and am hopefully ready to get some good photos.

I have bought a few new items of clothing, but will mostly take older clothes on the trip. I will include a few well worn items that I will leave behind. I will need some room in the suitcase on the way back.

Unfortunately, getting my water heater replaced was not an expected item on the checklist. This took a bit of time from some other checklist items.

I will be busy this weekend finishing up some yard work so that I don’t come back to a jungle.

Other items still on the checklist include:

  • Choosing books to read on the trip.
  • Packing the suitcase.
  • Buying another battery for my camera.
  • Printing out all my travel documents.
  • Making sure I have all my power adapters and chargers.

Then a bunch of little things too tedious to list or think about at the moment.

Now for two more days of work before a wonderful vacation.

I am looking forward to meeting some new friends on the trip as well as spending more time with a few friends who were on the tour of Israel.

Now, back to getting ready for the trip.

Steven
