This evening at dinner we had some items placed in a locker.
The locker key was brought to our table and afterwards we went to collect our items.
We had to find the right locker for the key.
The key had Japanese characters, so it was fun to match the key to the locker.
Of course it helped if we held the key right.
I did recognize the second character on the key. It is the number one. I then found out that the top row of boxes all had a one as the second character. It was then easy to find the right box.
I will have to ask someone tomorrow what the first character is.
The wooden key was interesting as it had grooves in it. If the pattern of the grooves match the pins in the lock then the key will go all the way down and trip the catch on the lock.
If the key goes all the way down then you can open the locker. Here we see the key inserted into the lock. Thankfully the door of the locker opened.
So what was put in the locker? If you have been to Asia, you may know what we put in the locker.
When we entered the restaurant we had to take off our shoes. They placed them in the locker for us. It is very common in Asia to take your shoes off at restaurants.
If you look at my Cherry Blossoms in Tokyo post you will see that people even take their shoes off when eating outside.
We did have a nice meal at the restaurant tonight, but that is another post.

I’ve never seen anything like that. Interesting.
I agree with Lyle. I’ve also never seen anything like this. Differences across cultures are really interesting.
