More than three months has passed since my last Home Pride Update post, but since there is big news about Home Pride Bread I decided it was time for an update.
Today Flowers Foods issued a press release announcing that they have entered into an exclusive license agreement with Aunt Millie’s Bakeries to produce and market Home Pride Bread and Wonder Bread.
Aunt Millie’s Bakeries is based in Fort Wayne, Indiana and will distribute the breads in southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Chicago and Milwaukee will soon have Home Pride Bread back on their shelves. The press release and articles that I saw did not give an expected date, but I am sure that it will happen soon.
Aunt Millie’s Bakeries is also a distributor for Hostess Snack Cakes in their market area, so they will be distributing a large share of the former Hostess products.

Here is a map from Flowers Foods website that shows their Market Territory in February. If you compare the map with the one I posted back in November, you can see that there have been some small changes.
There is now a bakery open in Henderson, Nevada and there have been small expansions to their territory in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
I am not sure how they will portray the partnership with Aunt Millie’s on the map. The Home Pride Bread lovers of Chicagoland will probably just want to see the bread on the shelves.
It will be interesting to see what happens to this territory in the future, will Flowers Foods license additional brands to Aunt Millie’s Bakeries?
I am sure that Flowers Foods will eventually want to expand into Chicago with the rest of their product line.
For those of you in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas, you wait will soon be over.

Steven – Thanks so much for the update. I’m happy they’re expanding, but it doesn’t look like it’ll come as far as Detroit area (I’m about 20 miles north of Detroit). I was SO upset last when the “roll-out” started because all Detroit radio & TV stations were saying “Home Pride Bread back on shelves.” Of course, they didn’t tell us you couldn’t buy any in Michigan! Arghhhh! I’ve been eating Aunt Millie’s Butter-top wheat, but it’s just not the same. Good news is we’re going to Chicago for a week this summer & I’ll buy a half-dozen loaves & bring ’em home! Again, thanks for the update.
Gads, who knew there were so many fans of one bread. I see in your photo that they make white……….I didn’t know anyone bought white anymore 😀
I’m was on the way to our Ralph’s market to make a complaint. I loved Home Pride white bread. It cost a little more than the generic nothin’-but-air breads but I am willing to pay extra for the quality in, for what I call, “NORMAL BREAD”! The last loaf I bought was HORRIBLE. Three weeks ago, the previous time I bought Home Pride bread, it was great. I’m going to “ask my grocer”, as in what advertisements used to say “Ask you grocer to get….”, what the problem was. Nowadays, grocers just get pissed off and defensive when you ask about a product they used to carry or comes is a smaller package at the same price, etc.. I know food prices have gone up but trying to hide it from us, the actual eaters of these products, insults our collective intelligences. Anyway, I am off to the store and boy am I pissed off!
I live in Chicago and I have to admit I hadn’t checked for your reports since last November, after being disheartened by an email response from Flowers Foods stating:
“If you live outside Flowers’ fresh delivery territory, we regret that you will not be able to purchase these brands yet.” and “Our market territory is expanding every year and I hope that one day you’ll be able to find our baked foods in your local stores.”
Early in June, while shopping for groceries, bread included, I turned into the bread aisle and staring me in the face was my beloved Home Pride. I bought three loaves and as soon as I got home I made myself a cheese sandwich with HP even though I still have half a loaf of – oddly – Aunt Millies! The oddity is I hadn’t been buying Aunt Millies but the last time I bought bread the store I was in didn’t carry my breads of choice, Koepplinger’s Recipe 100% Whole Wheat and Country Hearth Split Top Wheat, and AM was on sale.
Thank you for the updates, it brought a nice feeling of camaraderie in our loss. For me and many others the wait is over. They got to Chicago faster than I thought so for the rest of you fellow Home Pride lovers, Keep the Faith.

I just stumbled onto this site looking for blogs about the “new” Home Pride Buttertop Wheat Bread.
It’s different from the original.
Has anybody noticed that it no longer goes stale?
It just stays soft and chewy. I’m going to test to see how long it stays this way with my next loaf.
