Katoomba Falls

Yesterday I posted a Blue Mountains Preview, in the post I mentioned that I had more pictures to share of waterfalls.

The main waterfall at Katoomba is known as Katoomba Falls.

The name Katoomba is derived from the Aboriginal word kedumba which means ‘water tumbling over hill’.

So, the name is basically a doublet of words meaning the same thing.

Katoomba Cascade - Katoomba Falls - Waterfall - Blue Mountains - AustraliaThe Katoomba Falls has a series of drops and starts with the Katoomba Cascade.

The path to the bottom of the cascade is fairly easy and you get a nice view of the falling water.

Katoomba Falls - Blue Mountains - Katoomba - Waterfall - AustraliaTo get to the bottom of the first large drop is quite a hike. You have to climb down quite a few steps and wind through the upper reaches of the sub-tropical rain forest. Along the way you pass another waterfall named Witches Leap, which I will share pictures of in a future post.

Katoomba Falls - Blue Mountains - Australia - WaterfallsIn this picture you can see the two largest drops of the Katoomba Falls.

The waterfall has an overall drop of about 800 feet or 244 meters.

I have seen a few pictures with a greater flow of water over the falls, but I really like the wispy look of the falls.

My legs are sore today because of the long walk yesterday, especially the vertical portions of the walk. Hopefully they will feel better tomorrow.

What is your favorite waterfall?

it looks so lush and I’m glad there’s still water flowing when we see lots of wild fires being reported in many parts of Australia
