I am in my hotel room this evening watching the Winter Olympics after a nice meal at one of my favorite Thai restaurants.
I was thinking earlier today that this is the second Winter Olympics in a row where I have spent most of the time during the Winter Olympics in Summer.
During the last Winter Olympics which were held in Vancouver, I spent most of the time on a two week cruise to Antarctica. I was not able to watch hardly any of the events.
Although the picture above looks like winter, it was summertime in Paradise Bay, Antarctica.
This year I am watching the Sochi Winter Olympics from my hotel room in Sydney, Australia.
Of course, it is summertime here in Australia so I am again spending time in summer while the Winter Olympics are being contested.
During most of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turino, Italy, I was not too far away in Milan. I spent quite a few evenings watching the Olympic events at the hotel. I also saw a lot of tourists in Milan on the weekend.
In the picture above you can see one of the Russian athletes in Milan.
I wrote about some of my Recent Olympic Memories in a post two years ago, but did not extend my memories back to the 2002 Winter Olympics.
I just looked and I spent most of the time during the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in Mexico, City.
You have to go all the way back to the 1998 Nagano Games to find a Winter Olympics where I spent the entire time close to home. At that time I was working as a Field Service Engineer so was working in Kansas and Missouri.
I wonder where I will be during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Perhaps then will be a good time to take another cruise to Antarctica.
I am hoping that they will show some Curling soon. I am not sure if they will show much here since Australia does not have a Curling team in the Olympics.
What is your favorite Winter Olympic event?
Steven

You do travel a lot.
That and February is usually a month when I traditionally travel. The first part of the year is slow so we sometimes get to do training elsewhere.
Very interesting, we’re watching the Olympics now in Arkansas. I love curling.
I’m not watching any Olympics this year, due to their attitudes about gays.
It’s unthinkable that they make someones LIFE ‘illegal’. Plus there’s so much corruption there, it’s not surprising the structures built for these games are the way they are.
