I am currently listening to the Flowers Foods latest conference call, so thought I would write another Home Pride Update post.
Not much about bread in the post today, this one is focused on snack cakes.
Today while I was out shopping I took a look at what snack cakes were available.
I had heard that my favorite snack cake from Hostess was available again, and wanted to see if I could find it.
I did find a box of Zingers, but unfortunately someone opened the box. This was the last one on the shelf, and I decided that I would not buy it since it had been opened. However, I now know that they are available and know where I can find them.
Do I really need to buy some? I really need to watch what I eat, but they do bring back many memories and are so good.
I also saw a holiday offering from Tastykake which is a Flowers Foods brand. I decided that I would buy a package of Fruit Kake. It does look good.
I am starting to see some Tastykake items show up in California, and am looking forward to seeing more.
I took this picture while I was back in Missouri for my parent’s Golden Anniversary.
They are talking a lot about the snack cake business in the conference call. The two main Flowers Foods brands are Tastykake and Mrs. Freshley’s. In the picture above you can see just a few of the different offerings that they have.
Flowers Foods plans on expanding the distribution of their snack cakes throughout their distribution area. They did mention that Tastykake would be a major contributor to their growth in California.
Mrs. Freshley’s has a snack cake that is similar to Twinkies.
When I wrote the post Twinkie Wannabes, it would have been nice to try this one. I picked these up when I was in Missouri and they were really good.
What is your favorite snack cake?
Steven
Good memories are fun to eat:)

I love home pride bread. It is all I have ever eaten however when my husband found it and brought it home the other day, we noticed it was different. The problem was it smelled and tasted as if if were not baked long enough and you could smell the yeast. The second problem was it was too light. I hope Flowers foods gets it corrected soon. Thanks
