I am back home from my latest trip, and that means it was time for the post-trip routine.
I usually get back from a trip with enough time to get some things done before bed time. Also, in some cases I need to keep awake to help recover from jet-lag.
So, what does the post trip routine include?
Quick check of the mail – Sort out the most important things that need to be taken care of.
Unpack suitcase and start laundry – I usually do at least two loads immediately after a trip. The second load is in the dryer as I write this.
Catch up on TV shows – Depends on whether new shows aired of my favorite series.
Mowing the Lawn – Usually put off to at least the next day 🙂 As it was this time.
Download pictures from camera – This does not take long, but is important as it creates a few more backups.
Tonight, I alternated between catching up on TV shows and watching the World Series. There was an interesting ending tonight. At least one of my Missouri teams was able to come back from a tie and win tonight.
The trip home from the airport also included a stop at Half Price Books. I had a 15% off coupon that expires at the end of the month.
So what did I pick up at Half Price Books?
I found a two volume set of Herodotus. I have a paperback copy, but these are really nice and have some maps in them.
I also found a copy of the newest book by Gavin Menzies. I am interested to find out what he has to say about Atlantis. I have read several of his books and they are quite interesting. He really makes you think about some of the mysteries of history.
When I got home, I also had a box of books that arrived by UPS the day after I left on my trip. I had hoped that they would arrive before I left, but was glad to see them when I got home this evening.
I am looking forward to digging into these books.
The Pilgrim Migration: Immigrants to Plymouth Colony 1620-1633 by Robert Charles Anderson will be one of the first ones that I will be digging into. I will use some of the information from this book in my Thanksgiving post this year. Several of my ancestors are listed in this book.
Unfortunately, my main Dutch family is not featured in History of Ancient Families of New Amsterdam and New York by Edwin R. Purple, but I am hoping that it will be able to help me find information about some of the other branches of my family. If nothing else, I will better understand the other families that lived close to mine.
The other two books were about New Englanders that were captured by Indians and taken to Canada and early families in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Hopefully I can find time for a lot of reading in the next couple of weeks 🙂
What is your post-trip routine?
Steven

When the heck do you have time to do all that reading? I think those ‘First Nations People’ sneaking off with New Englander’s might have just been inviting them for dinner, Canadians are far too polite for any nasty deeds, LOL
Two common threads with my routine here, Steven: laundry – though a family’s washing takes a considerable time to complete – and photos . I can never wait to see what I’ve taken in my travels.
Welcome back.
The books look very interesting. I wish we had a used book store around here. The captives to Canada book looks like it will be a good read.
One of the best perks of living in a college town is the used book stores!
You must be amazingly organized to accomplish so much …
