A Revolving Meal

Tonight we had dinner at the largest revolving restaurant in the world.

Bellini Restaurant - Largest Revolving Restaurant - Mexico World Trade Center - Restaurante Giratorio

The Bellini Restaurant is on the 45th floor of the Mexico City World Trade Center and is recognized by Guinness as the largest revolving restaurant in the World. The restaurant covers more that 11,000 square feet and can seat more than 300 patrons at a time.

We would have had a nicer view of the city if we would have been able to arrive earlier. However, I can’t end class early just for me to have a nice view during dinner 🙂  We still had a nice view even with it being a rainy night.

The restaurant takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to make one rotation. The seating area is on a big turntable and moves so slowly that it is sometimes hard to tell you are even moving. I would have to look at an object that was moving and one that was stationary. Then you would feel the movement.

Frida Kahlo - Bellini Restaurant - Mexican Culture - Art Gallery - Revolving restaurant

Another way that you could tell that we were moving was by looking at the pictures on the inner wall of the restaurant. The restaurant has a large collection of pictures and paintings of Frida Kahlo.

I really enjoyed watching the pictures of Frida Kahlo slowly pass by. She is one of the top Mexican artists of the 20th century.

To see a sculpture of Frida, you can visit the post that I wrote yesterday: Casa de Cultura

Bellini Restaurant - Mexico City - Worlds Largest Revolving Restaurant - Filet Mignon - Food presentation

So, how was the meal. I am sure that some of you want to know 🙂

I ordered a small Filet Mignon. The presentation of the meal was very nice, but really didn’t matter much as the lighting in the restaurant is very subdued. The best part of the plate was the mashed potatoes. They were really delicious. The steak was nothing special, but you must keep in mind that I grew up in cattle country.

Flambe - Dessert - Bellini - Worlds largest revolving restaurant - Mexico City

The dessert had a nice presentation as I ordered Strawberry Flambe with Ice Cream. The dessert was nice, but I would have much rather had just  a couple scoops of ice cream with a few fresh strawberries. But, then I would have missed the towering flames.

I would definitely go back to Bellini’s for dinner again, but would probably order a fish or chicken dish instead of the beef.

Have you ever eaten in a revolving restaurant?

Steven

No, but I wouldn’t be able to look at something stationery to see if I was moving. I’d be dizzy …

We actually have a revolving restaurant in Edmonton. It’s in a Hotel. The foods just ‘OK’. They had their hay-days in the 60’s. I never order anything flaming, I’m always terrified the ceiling with go up like a roman candle. I’m always looking for where the nearest exit is at the best of times. Have fun. Adios !
