A Golden Anniversary

Today we celebrated my parents’ Golden Anniversary. A time to come together and remember their 50 years together.

The actual anniversary is not until December, but we celebrated a bit early. We didn’t want a repeat of 50 years ago when people had to drive home in the snow.

Golden Anniversary - 50th Anniversary - Corsage - Portrait - Marriage

In this picture we have a recent portrait of my parents and the original corsage that my Mom wore at the wedding.

I am planning on writing a post about the photo shoot for the portrait. Not sure when I will write it yet.

1960's Wedding Dress - 50th Wedding Anniversary - Golden Wedding Anniversary - Wedding Dress

We also had my Mom’s wedding dress on display. It still looks beautiful and is in nice shape for being 50 years old. My Mom made the dress herself and it only took her three days to cut it out and sew it together.

We also had several other items from the wedding on display. The guest book, ring box, candle and we also used the original cake top.

1960's Wedding Cake Top - Bride and Groom - Cake top - 50th Wedding Anniversary - Golden Anniversary - Wedding Cake

The little figures still look nice after 50 years. This picture means a lot to me as my Mom made cakes for many years while I was growing up. Whenever I see wedding cakes I think of my Mom.

Candy Buffet - 50th Wedding Anniversary - Golden Anniversary - Orange Slices - Chocolate - M&M's - Skittles

Along with cake and punch we also had a candy buffet for the guests. Front and center are Orange Slices, which are my Dad’s favorite. The candy buffet was a hit for the guests of all ages.

I was the moderator and told a few stories and guided things along. I even was able to add a little humor that I got from my sister. My parents started dating in November, got married in December and she was born in January. Of course, not in the same year but thirteen months between each event 🙂

50th Wedding Anniversary - Golden Anniversary - Memory Board - Photo Board

We also put together a nice memory board of their years together.

Three of the other members of the wedding party were there and also a nice number of people who had attended the wedding 50 years ago.

We also had guests from all three areas that my parents have lived in through the years. I had a great time talking to them and hearing about their memories.

A wonderful day of memories!

Steven

Congratulations to your folks, that’s amazing! I think the look wayyyyyy to young to have been married in 1963. Gads, you would never guess. Love the vintage cake top too.
