I listened to the quarterly conference call for Flowers Foods this evening to see if I could find out any news about when Home Pride bread will be back on the shelves.
The conference call was very interesting. They talked about the great growth that the company had in the last quarter and also gave a little bit of information about how they plan to integrate the Hostess products into their brand structure.
I found out that Wonder Bread will be their national white bread brand and that Home Pride along with the other breads will remain regional brands. They will slowly evaluate each of the bakeries that they bought and make decisions as to when to bring them back on-line to support distribution.
Here is a picture from Google maps of the closest former Hostess bakery to me. You can find a list of all the bakeries that Flowers Foods bought from Hostess by clicking on: Home Pride Update XXXIV – The Bakeries
I also found out that Flowers Foods recently bought another bakery near me that makes buns. I found out a few more interesting things as well, but will not bore you with all the details 🙂
Wonder Bread will complement Nature’s Own Bread, which is their premium national brand, and Tastykake will be their national snack cake brand. I am hoping to see more Tastykake choices here in the future. Up to now I have only seen Mini Donuts.
I know that everyone wants to here this:
When will Home Pride bread be ready to be sold again? When will it be back on the shelves?
They did not give an exact date in the conference call, but did give a general time frame of seeing the Hostess bread brands returning to stores in the fall.
For now, Nature’s Own Honey Wheat will be my bread of choice until Home Pride is back on the shelves.
Steven
