A Little Prince

I was searching through my Grandma’s scrapbooks again tonight and ran across a couple interesting pictures.

Prince Andrew - 1962 - Queen Elizabeth - Baby Picture of Prince The scrapbooks that I have do not go back to 1948 when Prince Charles was born, but they do include 1960 which is when Prince Andrew was born. Here we see Prince Andrew with his mother Queen Elizabeth.  His full name is Andrew Albert Christian Edward and he was named for his grandfathers and two of his great-great-grandfathers.

His two grandfathers were Prince Andrew of Greece and King George VI of Britain.  What, you don’t see George in his name? Well, King George’s first name was actually Albert.

The two great-great-grandfathers that he was named for were King Edward VII of Britain and King Christian IX of Denmark.

The same page in the scrapbook also had another nice picture.

Queen Elizabeth II - Queen's Baby Picture - Elizabeth II as baby - Princess Elizabeth

Here is a baby picture of Queen Elizabeth II, the great-grandmother of the newest little prince.

I wrote a post earlier this week about the birth of the new prince: A New Cousin

Prince William and Kate have named their new son George Alexander Louis. He will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge and is third in line to the throne.

I have not seen an official statement as to exactly who the three names honor, but the George is most likely from his great-great-grandfather King George VI. There were several King Alexanders and Louis is probably from Lord Mountbatten.

My Grandmother was always fascinated by the British royal family and she would always save clippings when she ran across news about them in the newspaper. I may have to dig more of them up. There are some interesting ones 🙂
