Well, Old Blue is broken down again and is in the shop. See What a Wednesday for a few more details and links to previous breakdowns. Also there are some nice nature picks in the What a Wednesday post :-).
On my way home Wednesday I hit a small animal. I didn’t think that it would cause as much damage as it did.
Here is where I struck the animal. The damage on the front of the car does not look too bad.
Underneath is where the real damage is. All of the covers underneath the front bumper and engine compartment are damaged or missing.
Here you can see one of the covers hanging and also the bottom of my radiator.
Here you can see drips on the undercarriage of the car. I woke up yesterday morning to a nice stream of radiator fluid across the floor of my garage. It was not a real fast leak and I had not noticed it the night before. I think that maybe when the car cooled down it started leaking faster
I tried to catch a picture of a drop falling and this was the best I got :-). It looks like a stream of fluid, but it is a drop in motion.
Since the car was leaking fluid, the insurance company had my car towed to the shop. While waiting for the tow truck I captured a cup or two of radiator fluid in a small container.
This is a sight that I have seen too many times this year.
The good news is that I have a rental car and that parts have already been ordered to fix Old Blue. The shop thinks that I may even have Old Blue back by the end of next week.
In the meantime I am checking out a Chevy Cruze. So far I like it for driving around town. I had a day off of work today and had many errands to run. We will see how it drives on the highway. It might make a nice little commuter car someday.

More adventures with the car. I see now that a moose would have done a lot more damage. Do you know what you hit?
Yes, but didn’t want to name what it was.
Hope your car is fixed soon! Members of my family have hit deer several times and they’ve done a lot of damage. One time my son was riding in the car in the front passenger seat when my husband hit a deer that crushed the right-hand side of the car. My son said that it was incredibly frightening, and I think he almost felt like the deer was going to end up in his lap.
Sorry about your car incident Steven, I’m glad you’re ok. Thank you too for not revealing what you hit. It would have been on my mind for days, poor thing was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hey! Did your beard grow overnight? 😀
Boomdee, it took a little longer than overnight :-).
I pick up Old Blue tomorrow. I will be glad to have my car back.
