This week there was a small bit of information about Home Pride Bread and the other bread brands bought by Flowers Foods. In their press release about their quarterly results they mentioned that the acquisition is now in regulatory review and they expected approval in the second half of the year.
They also announced good results and nice growth (almost 20% in volume) with almost half of the growth coming from other recent acquisitions. They continue to integrate the Sara Lee and Earthgrains brands in California, which has been great for me as I have had new breads to try.
I hope that regulatory approval does not take long and they will be able to release their plans for future distribution soon.
This week I have been trying out Rainbo Butter Top White bread.
I really like Rainbo Butter Top Wheat. It toasts well, tastes great with sandwiches and is a great all round bread. This one is definitely being added to the front runner list.
Last week I posted pictures comparing slices of Rainbo Butter Top White and Rainbo Butter Top Wheat. This week I plan on starting side by side testing of the two breads. I picked up a loaf of each type of bread at Safeway yesterday.
This now makes four breads in a row from Rainbo. I don’t want to fill the entire front runner list with Rainbo varieties, so I have decided that I will bump Rainbo Wheat Bread to the list of breads that have not passed the test.
The front runners are Rainbo Butter Top White, Rainbo Butter Top Wheat, Roman Meal Sungrain 100% Whole Wheat and Roman Meal Thin Sliced Sandwich Bread.
The breads that have not passed the test are Sara Lee 100% Whole Wheat , Safeway’s Butter Top Wheat, Oroweat Soft Family 100% Whole Wheat, Oven Joy, Sara Lee Honey Wheat, Bimbo Soft Wheat Family, Cascade Pride Split Top Wheat , Oroweat simply 100% Whole Wheat, Open Nature 100% Whole Wheat Bread, Rainbo Wheat Bread and Rainbo White Bread.
You can click on the bread names above to visit the posts where I reviewed them.
Hopefully more details about Home Pride Bread will be released soon.
