Flip Day

Today is the first day of May and time again to flip the pages on the calendar.

I will share a couple of pictures that I was thinking about while flipping the pages on my calendars. They are not the pictures from the calendars, but ones that I have taken.

Above my computer in my office I have a barn calendar.

Old Barn - Iowa Barn - Northboro,Iowa Barn - Barn on country road - Rural Scene

I took this picture near Northboro, Iowa. It is across the road from the cemetery where my Van Duzor ancestors are buried.

In my kitchen I have one calendar that has different animals each month. This month it has a picture of:

Koala - Sydney, Australia - Taronga Zoo - Koala at Zoo - Down Under Zoo

Here we have an adorable Koala at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. I really like these little marsupials. They are so cute.

In my bathroom I have a lighthouse calendar. Here is one of my favorite lighthouse pictures.

lighthouse at the end of the world, les elaireurs lighthouse

The Lighthouse at the End of the World

This picture was taken while I was on a cruise to Antarctica with my sister. The proper name of this lighthouse is Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. You can click on the name of the lighthouse to visit a post I wrote about it last August. It is in the Beagle Channel between Argentina and Chile.

I hope everyone had a great flip day!

Steven

That barn looks well worn. I always enjoy them when we’re out in the country. Mostly because they’re disappearing from our landscape. Family farming is going by way of the dodo bird in our neck of the woods.

Koala bears always remind me of Grandpa Munster for some reason…and you’re right, they’re so darn cute.

Hi there! I ran across your photo while I was on Google looking for pictures of Northboro, Iowa. My daughter is doing a school project and has to bring in photos of her relatives and where they are from. My father is originally from Northboro but moved away in the 1950’s after graduating from college. My grandfather, who owned a farm outside of Northboro, farmed until the day he died (literally, he died from a massive stroke while sitting in his recliner after supper, after farming all day), had a barn that looked exactly like this. Everything on the farm was painted white including the barn (it was not red, the way I always imagined big barns to look). They even had a milking parlor on the side that looked like the block building/wing in the foreground. I know this is not my grandfather’s barn, because his farm was sold after his death and the whole farm was torn down and plowed under (including the house). You would never know there had ever been a farm yard where the old farm once stood. But I sure enjoyed looking at this photo and walking down memory lane in my mind. I read a few of your other posts and they are great. I will be back for more. Thanks, Julia

Julia, thanks for sharing your memories. I am sure that our families knew each other. I will send you an e-mail.
