One of the interesting things that I have seen in Seoul is the vintage record stores. There are not as many as there used to be, but it is still really interesting to see them.
The main area for the record stores is the Hoehyeon Underground Shopping Arcade. I have heard that at one time this shopping arcade was almost exclusively filled with record stores.
Of course, many of you may not even know what these are :-). Do you remember putting an LP on your turntable and enjoying some great music?
Have you ever seen so many Albums in one place? Some of my older readers may remember record stores with this many albums. I think that the records that I have at home would probably only fill a little more that two of the boxes.
Most of the records that I have at home are Classical, Southern Gospel or are some of my favorite records from when I was a child. The one I am thinking of now is Here Comes the Bus. My mother would hide the record from me since I would play it over and over again.
I still play some of my records from time to time. I have my favorites that just have that special sound on a turntable. For example, Ethel Waters singing His Eye is on the Sparrow.
I spent this morning and early afternoon relaxing and following the NCAA Basketball tournament on-line. I also did a bit of blog maintenance and updated the pages that show up as links at the top of my blog page. There is one new page, Home Pride Bread, and several of the others have new or updated content.
I then had an interesting trip into downtown Seoul this afternoon and evening. It was a gloomy day and then it started to rain. However, I did get some good pictures before the rain started that I will share in the future. I especially want to write something more about King Sejong.
The picture above is 0f a statue of King Sejong that is in downtown Seoul. It is just across from the American Embassy, and is also above a small museum about his life. King Sejong was one of the greatest Korean kings and invented Hangul, which is the Korean alphabet.
There was also a large protest going on near the Seoul City Hall and the Police were out in force at the protest. There was also a large group of police patrolling near the American Embassy.
If I were at home, I would be spinning some vinyl after writing this post. Perhaps I will still be in the mood when I get home next weekend :-).
Steven
