I struggled to find a title for my post tonight. I wanted to share a few pictures from my lunch and also a few from the area around my hotel. Just down the street from my hotel is a famous mural by Diego Rivera. I thought about Lunch and a Show, but it didn’t have the ring of Dinner and a Show. I thought of Pizza, Pizza but that didn’t cover all I wanted to post. I decided that my Pizza pictures are a bit artistic, so settled on Artistic Thursday.
This first picture is for my brother. He likes to take pictures of condiment sets at restaurants, so here is one for him to add to his collection. I was actually able to translate what each of these bottles were.
So now for the artistic shots of the Pizza.
The first pizza was called the Campirana and had Chorizo, Frijoles, Jalapeños y Cebolla.
This second pizza is the Pizza Plaza Mexicana. It has Jamon, Chorizo, Lomo Canadiense, Salami, Pepperoni, Champinones, Pimento, Cebolla y Jalapeños.
The name of the pizza place was Pizzas Palace. Yes, that is Pizzas. The pizza was real good. It had a nice thin crust and great ingredients. I must admit I ate too much.
When I got back to the hotel after a nice steak dinner at an Argentinian restaurant, I decided to take a little walk.
Here you can see that there is a Starbucks at my hotel. One of the dozens I have seen in just a small part of Mexico City.
From my hotel I walked down the street so that I could get some pictures of the famous mural on the front of the Teatro de Los Insurgentes.
Diego Rivera was commissioned to create this mural in 1953. Rivera is well known for not only his great mural works but also his tempestuous personal life, including his two marriages to artist Frida Kahlo. They both died a few years after this mural was commissioned.
The mural is titled La historia del Teatro and visualizes the history of theater and arts in Mexico.
The mural is made up of painted tiles. You can see some of the detail in this picture.
It was hard to get a clear picture of the entire mural because of the trees planted in the median of the road. I didn’t want to brave traffic to get a better shot.
I did take closer shots of most of the mural and may share some of them in a future post about Diego Rivera. I will be seeing more of his murals this weekend.
I hope you enjoyed my Artistic Thursday.
Steven

Whoa nelly, I don’t recognize half the toppings on your pizza. I’d sleep for a week if I ate that…ha, I mean siesta. I wonder how much a Tall-Skinny is there? It’s $3.52 in Canada (without a slice of Banana Bread which is oh-so-hard to resist). Murals are such a cool way to share urban art. Art should be accessible, for all: rich, poor, old, young. I love that.
