Valentine Roses

No long stem roses in this post. Tonight I am thinking of my rose bushes as they are starting to wake up after their Winter Pruning. It was only a few short weeks until I started see the bushes start to grow new foliage.

After five more days we see even more growth and some of the leaves look like they are about to explode open.

This morning I took another picture as I was heading off to work. Here we see the leaves opening up. This is the Valentine Rose picture :-).

As I look across my rose bed I can see new growth everywhere as the roses are slowly coming alive. It is hard to believe that it will only be a couple months until this particular rose bush will start looking like this again.

Rose Bush - Yellow Rose - Floribunda - Large Rose Bush

Actually, this picture was taken in November, so it will take some time to get this large. However, it will really start to bulk up in the next couple of months and be covered with an abundance of blooms. Rose blooms - Different color on same bush - Red and Yellow

Here is an example of what the blooms look like on this rose bush. Sometimes I even get some red blooms on this yellow rose bush. You can read about this phenomenon in Different Colored Blooms.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Even if you didn’t get any long stem roses. Maybe you got chocolate instead :-).

It’s always nice to see new growth.

  2. Great sequence of photos! I often think new plant growth is prettier than the much-hyped flowers – lovely fresh greens and pinks.

Wow, they sure come along fast down there in sunny California. I’m so envious. That’s a really interesting growth habit. It’s like a surprise bush.
