Wandering the US

Last night while writing my post about Castle Rock I thought about this map that I created that shows the different counties I have visited in the US.

Counties Visited in the US - US Map - WanderingI would say that the map is probably about 95% accurate as to what counties I have visited in the US as an adult. You can see that I have visited a lot of the counties in the middle of the country. You can especially see where my territory was when I was a field service engineer. During that time I visited every county in Kansas and most of the ones in Missouri.

You can also see areas where I flew to, and far away places that I drove to. I was talking to a friend on Wednesday night about what states we had been to, and it also made me think of this map. I have been to all but six of the states. I have not been to Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia, Alabama and Mississippi. It looks like I have not been to Alaska, but there is actually one county that is marked. It is just hard to see in this view.

Looking at this map I realize that there is a lot of the country that I need to explore someday.

Where should I wander next?

That’s an impressive amount of wandering.

  2. My recommendations: Maine, West Virginia, Idaho. Shenandoah County in Virginia and Southwest Pennsylvania. Everybody should see Fallingwater in Ohiopyle, PA at least once in their lives, in my opinion. 😉

  3. I agree on Maine! And shoot me a message about what you thought of living in KC. My husband and I have to relocate because of his job, and Overland Park, KS is looking like a likely option (with me maybe teaching at Avila U.) parks.elizabeth@gmail.com

What a fun map! I might have to try to create one to track my travels. I’ve been to many states, but there would be much larger swaths of the US that I’ve never visited if I used a county map.

WOW, you’ve been here there and almost everywhere. We got engaged in Irvington Virginia…it’s on Chesapeake Bay and it’s gorgeous. I’d recommend a stay at the Hope and Glory if you go. It’s the number one most romantic B&B in America……worked on Mr B anyways.

I think you should go to the northernmost states. No red there!!
