Last Wednesday I wrote a post titled: Wet and Windy Wednesday
Tonight it was neither wet nor windy, but a bit cold. I still had leaves on my mind though as I captured a nice leaf picture on Monday night while I was leaving work and tonight I captured an interesting marking on the parking lot surface.
The tree just outside the back door of our building still has leaves on it. They have such beautiful colors and they contrasted so well with the background as they were back lit by the setting sun. Tonight the leaves were still hanging on, and probably will until we have another wet and windy day.
I have also been intrigued by some markings on the parking lot this week and finally decided to take a picture of one of them this evening as I left work.
This is where a leaf was laying on the parking lot surface during the rain last week. I am really intrigued by how this was formed and to why it is still visible. My assumption is that water pooled around the leaf and soaked into the parking lot. Since it has been cold, the water has not evaporated where it soaked in leaving an outline of the leaf and the pool of the water. I have decided to call this a water shadow. I am sure that with a sunny warm day that this will disappear. It is already fainter than it was on Monday, and some of the other water shadows have disappeared entirely. I just really think that it is cool to think of how this was formed.
Take a look at the pictures from last week and you will get an idea of how this water shadow may have formed.

Do you ever collect them to dry? They’re really pretty.
I am not much of a collector of leaves, rocks, etc.. But, I collect pictures of them :-).
And here I thot you had outlined the spot where the leaf died like a criminal investigation:) That is an interesting effect.
Love the water shadow!!!
Maybe I have coined a new term :-).
