Chickens: Ancient and Modern

I am thinking about chickens tonight, so here are two quick pictures of ancient and modern chickens. Wednesdays are back to being long days so expect shorter posts on Wednesdays again.

Gallus Gallus - Red Jungle Fowl - Taronga Zoo - Sydney, Australia - Crowing Cock

Red Jungle Fowl (Gallus gallus) at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia.

Domesticated Chicken - Gallus gallus domesticus - Chicken - Wattles and Combs

Domesticated Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus). This is Onyx who belongs to my cousin. I really like the wattles and comb on this chicken.

Quite a contrast between the ancient and modern chicken. For more information on each, click on the links in the text. They will take you to previous posts that contain a bit more information about chickens.

This is just the oddest thing, Alys and I talked about Chickens this week, then Nikitaland and I talked Chicken…now I pop in here and yep…Chickens! Is it the year of the Chicken or what?

  2. Thanks both 🙂 Strange we all have chickens on the brain…I love your aesthetic approach to chickens, though, Steven.

Both the old and modern chickens in the pictures are beautiful birds.
