The time has come for a change in seasons. I always have an easy time remembering when the first day of fall is each year. My next youngest brother’s birthday is September 22, which is almost always the autumnal equinox. The equinox occasionally happens on September 23.
Today the axis of the earth is straight up in down in relation to the sun and the subsolar point is directly above the Equator. For us in the Northern Hemisphere the days will get shorter and shorter until the winter solstice in December when the subsolar point is above the Tropic of Capricorn.
I am sad for summer to be over, but I do enjoy fall or autumn when the leaves start to change color.
The days become cooler and you can open up the windows and cool down the house when you get home from work. Also, good sleeping weather where the night sounds are not overshadowed by the hum of air conditioning units.
Fall also brings several good holidays. Halloween is only just a month away and Thanksgiving is only two. Are you starting to get hungry for Turkey?
I hope that everyone had a great summer and are prepared for a great fall. I have been thinking about what my plans are for fall.
Here is a partial list of my fall plans:
- Fall house cleaning
- Read a lot of books
- Get the yard ready for winter
- Start a much needed exercise program
- Write at least three new posts in my Religion in Family History series
- Get my wisdom teeth removed (next week)
What are your fall plans?
Steven
I really love the cooler weather too, you’re right Steven, it’s so much easier to sleep at night. I’m on board with the exercise plan, since we are renting, there’s no yard work so I can get into a good book too. Hey is that a giant maple leaf?
The green leaf was lying on the sidewalk of my cousin’s house in West Sacramento. It was a very large maple leaf. Not sure if it was a giant though :-).
Love your posts, beautiful leaves and informative dialogue. Thanks! I don’t make long term plans ( anything over 2 or 3 days ) Things change too often π
I hope your extractions went well. I’m to have a back molar pulled next week. Age and teeth. Autumn of life? Sigh. π
