Morro Rock

Today I have been thinking about Morro Bay as I have been helping a friend move who is from there. We had a good day of unloading and unpacking and I am sure that I will be a bit sore tomorrow 🙂 However, it is worth it as we all helped out a friend.

Morro Rock in Morro Bay from the Embarcadero - Nine Sisters - Volcano Plug - California Harbor scene

Morro Rock

Morro Bay is along the Central Coast of California and is a nice little town. I have some very good friends that live their and I really enjoyed visiting their several years ago. Morro Bay is also near the Hearst Castle and I took a tour when I was there. They also have some good seafood restaurants, and it was from just outside one of them on the Embarcadero that I took this picture. I like the view of the boats with Morro Rock towering over them in the background.

Morro Rock towers almost 600 feet above the harbor. The rock is attached to the mainland by a causeway, so you are able to drive out to a parking lot at the base of the rock. I took a nice picture of a seagull resting on a rock in the parking lot.

If you look closely at the picture you can see a bear at the bottom just left of center. The bear is at the top of a plaque with information about the Morro Rock State Preserve. Morro Rock is home to peregrine falcons who are endangered and also several other bird species. Climbing on the rock is both dangerous and forbidden.

Morro Rock is the first in a series of nine volcano plugs or peaks that range between Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. They are known as the Nine Sisters. There is also a tenth peak that is underwater several miles off shore.

I hope you enjoy the pictures from Morro Bay. I enjoyed my nice weekend there.

How pretty, I’d love to live in a beach community. I wonder if they worry about that volcano becoming active again? Oh, well, it’d be jolly good till then. Sand & Surf & Ocean…I’d risk it.
