Taronga Zoo Birds

One of my favorite Zoos is the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. The Taronga Zoo is in a very unique setting with beautiful views of downtown Sydney and the Opera House from multiple places in the park. I visited the Taronga Zoo last November while conducting a training course in Australia. I was very impressed with the quality of the exhibits and the variety of animals that they had. I only wondered why in my many previous trips to Sydney, I had never visited the zoo. I am thinking of going there again during my next trip there in December.

Today, I am going to share a couple pictures of birds that I took while there.

First, we have a Luzon Bleeding-Heart Pigeon (Gallicolumba luzonica). This pigeon is from the island of Luzon in the Philippines. The beautiful red splash of color on the breast makes it look like it has been injured. Luzon Bleeding-Heart Pigeon (Gallicolumba luzonica) - Taronga Zoo - Sydney Australia

Next we have a Red Junglefowl (Gallus gallus). This beautiful bird is what came first. Our common barnyard chicken is Gallus gallus domesticus. I tend to like the original. The beautiful coloring and something that I can’t share here. This bird has a magnificent cock-a-doodle-doo.

I hope that you enjoy these pictures from the Taronga Zoo. I have a few more good pictures that I will post in the future, including a few nice Peacock shots.
