November Roses IV

I like the fact that here in California we still have roses in November. Sometimes they are some of the best roses of the year because of the mix of moisture and temperature.

So, since I have only a little bit of time to post tonight I will share some pictures that I took on Sunday after I got done Cleaning the Gutters.

November Roses, California, Yellow Rose

Here is a nice yellow rose. These are very fragrant. You can see the ladder in the background from where I was up cleaning the gutters.

This rose bush used to be much bigger when it was in the sun all the time, but now it is shaded most of the day.

California, Roses, Rose Bush, November Roses

This rose is a St. Patrick rose. It has a green tinge to it when it is a bud and a new bloom. It is not as fragrant, but usually has nice petal formation.

Mr. Lincoln Rose, November RoseThis rose is a Mister Lincoln. This blossom didn’t quite open all the way before the wind and rain stopped it.

Red Rose, Mr. Lincoln, November RoseHere is another Mister Lincoln that opened up all the way. This rose bush is very tall and reaches to the eaves.

Raindrops on roses, favorite things, Sound of Music, Sound of rainI thought I would also add this rose from last week from when it first started to rain. I was so Thankful for the Rain after the smoky skies we have had this month.

I hope you enjoyed these November Roses.

Cleaning the Gutters

Yesterday I cleaned my gutters. This is definitely a job that I don’t like doing as it is dirty and also high off the ground.

Ladder, cleaning gutters, fall house workIt was time to get out the ladder and get busy, especially as during the rain last week the gutters were overflowing and spilling water at the wrong places.

Leaves in gutter, fall house work, guttersIt is amazing how many leaves can collect in the gutters. Well, not too surprising as there is a tree that drops them right in the gutter on one side of the house. The other side of the house has no tree to drop the leaves, but they still fill up.

Gutter Cleaning tool, gutters, leavesI have a metal pipe that I use to push the leaves down the gutter and fling them out onto the ground. I have in my mind a design of what would work much better, but haven’t really seen what I think would work at the hardware store.

Gutter leavings, leaves, sidewalkHere you see the gutter leavings on my walkway. I am going to let the rains this week wash the sidewalk clean. Of course, I may still have to go out and sweep, but I need to let them dry first. They are hard to move when wet.

Clean Gutter, Fall WorkHere you can see that the gutter is much cleaner. On the lower side of the roof which was close to water I washed out the gutter. The higher up ones on the other side of the house should be OK as I removed all the big debris. I will just have to see how they perform in the rain.

There is one gutter that I can’t get to as there is not enough room between the house and fence for the ladder. I would have to climb on the roof to get to it. Luckily it is only a few feet long and not many leaves get into it.

My hands are a bit beat up as it is easy to scrape them on the concrete shingles and then I get leaf debris ground into the scrapes. I have a few inflamed scrapes on each hand. Maybe I should make the tool that I need 🙂

Maybe next year I will hire someone to clean my gutters.
