Blue Moon Thoughts

Last night we had a Blue Moon if we are following the definition of it being the second full moon in a month. There actually is a bit of controversy as to what is the definition of a Blue Moon. But, we will not have that discussion tonight 🙂

Full Moon, Lachish, Israel, Archaeological DigInstead, I am just going to share some Blue Moon thoughts. This picture was taken at Lachish, Israel back in 2016. This made me think of a post that I wrote back in September 2012: Once in a Blue Moon…

Paradise Bay Antarctica, Antarctic Cruise, clean air, cold air, furthest southIn the post I talked about a trip I had taken to Antarctica in March 2010 when there was a Blue Moon.

Caesarea Maritima, Paul, Felix and Drusilla, Judgement Hall, ArchaeologyAs I wrote the post in September 2012 I was just getting ready to go on my first trip to Israel. October 2012 had been a month with a Blue Moon, so the premise of the post was that once in a Blue Moon I took a big vacation.

Sunshades, Sandbags, Archaeology, Ussushkin, LacishSo where was I in July 2015 the month of the next Blue Moon? I was back in Israel again on my first archeological dig at Lachish.

Blood Red Moon, Super Moon, Blue Moon, EclipseJanuary and March 2018 had Blue Moons, depending on where you live. We did not technically have a Blue Moon in the US, although I did write about the January 2018 one as it was also an eclipse. The eclipse happened at about 5 in the morning on February 1st, so it was therefore not a Blue Moon 🙂

In October of 2020 we did not have two full moons here locally but other places had Blue Moons.

In November 2020 there was Blue Moon here, but I was sheltering in place so did not take a trip.

Full Moon, Sony hand held camera, Zeiss Lens, EclipseWhich brings us to this month which had a second full moon on Wednesday. Your calendar may have the full moon symbol for today, but that is because it was 1:35 in Greenwich, England when the moon became full. Did you know that the moon phases on most calendars are based on Greenwich Mean Time?

I am here at home, but am in the process of planning my first post-Covid trip.

The next Blue Moon here locally will be in January 2029, so there will be a long wait for the next one.

Hopefully I got all of this right and didn’t confuse anyone 🙂

Wednesday Image Search -Vir

Welcome to another Wednesday Image Search where I pick a string of letters or a word and share some of the images I find in an image search of the blog.

Last week I searched for ‘uir’ so this week I will continue on with ‘vir’. There will be some gaps in this sequence as not all combinations will find images.

What images will I find?

Virginia, Thomas Harriot, Theodor de Bry, John WhiteThe first image is the cover of a book about Virginia. One of the many books I have about History.

cliff house, san francisco, virtual hike, hills, Dublin, coast to coast hike. Here is where my Virtual Hike started. The Cliff house looks over the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco.

Church of the Sepulchre of Saint MaryHere is the entrance to the Tomb of the Virgin Mary in Jerusalem. I have not been in there, but have gone by it several times over the years.

Barnes and Noble, History, pestilence, Disease, Pox, PlagueHere is another book cover. This one came up because of it was used in a post about the COVID virus.

Virtual Hike, Yosemite, Long walk, exercise

Finally we have a map from one of my first Virtual Hike segments.  My hike has taken me all the way to the East Coast and I am on my way back now.

There were a few ‘vir’ pictures to choose from, but most were from my Virtual Hike posts. I hope you like my selections.

Which is your favorite of these pictures?

What should I search for next? I do have one more in the ‘*ir’ series but not sure what to search for after that.
