Big Red Crane

Today at the construction site near our office a big red crane started to do some work.

While I was in Germany last week I was watching the construction cam, and saw that the crane had arrived on site and had been put together on Friday.

I was occasionally looking at the construction cam today, but wanted to get a ground level view. I also needed a nice long walk to help combat jet lag.

Here is the view from the side of our building. You can see the big crane peeking over the trees.

Stadtkirche St. Michael

Whenever I travel to Jena, Germany I will usually take a few pictures of the city church.

Stadtkirche St. Michael, Jena Germany, churches, germanyI will often get night pictures of the building while walking after dinner.

Stadtkirche St. Michael, Jena Germany, churches, germanyThe church building is a bit more colorful in the daylight. It has been interesting to see the look of the building change over the years as it underwent a large restoration project. Someday I need to locate some of the pictures that I took almost 20 years ago and post them along with current ones.

Stadtkirche St. Michael, Jena Germany, churches, germanyWith the tall windows the apse of the church looks very interesting. It also looks really cool when lit up from inside at night.

Stadtkirche St. Michael, Jena Germany, churches, germanyThe tower of the church can be seen from many places in the city as it is pretty tall. When I first visited Jena the tower was not quite as tall. The tower was damaged in WWII and the cupola was not rebuilt. The cupola replacement was one of the first steps in the restoration project.

Now I am curious as to whether I have a picture of the tower from one of my first trips. I will have to do some hunting for the pictures.
