A Friday Walk at Work II

This Friday I took another afternoon walk at work.

Dublin, California, Zeiss, Construction, Zeiss Innovation CenterI decided to take some pictures that were similar to ones that I posted from my walk last Friday. See: A Friday Walk at Work

This one is a bit closer than the one last week, but you can really tell that progress is being made on the new building.

Dublin, California, Zeiss, Construction, Zeiss Innovation CenterHere is the Big Red Crane again along with the signboard for the construction. You can definitely see that a lot more steel is in place this week.

Dublin, California, Zeiss, Construction, Zeiss Innovation CenterLast week the structure was only to where the steps are in this picture, so you can see the progress that has been made. You can also see that more of the decking has been placed.

Friday Walk, Nature, flowers, thistleLast week I shared a couple nature pictures. One of them was a patch of thistle, so again here is a thistle from today.

Ladybug, plaid shirt, nature, bugsI did not capture a bee pollinating the thistle this week, but did have a ladybug land on my arm while I was taking pictures. This is a very young one that is just starting to develop the characteristic spots.

Ladybugs have been in the news in California this week as a huge swarm of them were picked up on radar near Los Angeles. So, it was interesting that one just happened to land on me today. Of course, my rose garden also has a resident population to help keep down the aphids.

Now for a relaxing weekend.

Searching Scrapbooks

Tonight I have been searching through some of my Grandma’s Scrapbooks.

Scrapbooks - Memories - newspaper Clippings - Scrapbook page edgesI have a large stack of scrapbooks from my Grandma that were put together in the late 50’s and early 60’s. I was hoping to find some articles on D-Day to share as today is the 75th anniversary of that event.

The scrapbooks were definitely after the event, so I thought perhaps my Grandma had saved an article remembering an anniversary.

Frank Andrea Miller - Iowa in the Civil War - April 12, 1853 - Fort Sumter - Seccession - War Between the StatesMy Grandma had saved many articles about the Civil War.

Iowa in the Civil War - John Brown - Abolitionists - Iowa History - Des Moines RegisterEspecially ones about Iowa in the Civil War.

1960 Scrapbook Clipping - Abraham LIncoln - Frank MillerShe saved a lot of clippings about President Lincoln, who was her favorite president.

Frank Andrea Miller Cartoon - General George Washington - Washington's Birthday - Valley ForgeShe also saved a lot of clippings of President Washington.

However, I could only find a few items about WWI and WWII or later. Mostly small articles about someone local who had served.

Memorial Day, Demoines Register, 1958There were some articles about Memorial Day, 4th of July and other holidays, but nothing saved about the events in Normandy.

Perhaps the absence is because the scrapbooks fell between the 10th and 20th anniversaries and at that time the observances were not as organize as they are today.

Also, people would not need as many reminders of the events as they were still relatively fresh in their minds. I have seen some articles in the past weeks about how the Civil War and the lessons learned from the conflict are being forgotten today. As the last Veterans of WWII are slowly passing will we also start losing touch with the lessons learned from WWII?

The search tonight was a nice reminder of what interested my Grandma and the heritage she passed on to me.

I hope you took the opportunity to remember today.
