Thinking of Cakes

Tonight I have been watching The Great American Baking Show. I really like that this season is in the big tent in England as I really also enjoyed the seasons of The Great British Bake Off.

A Quiet New Year Walk

My walk tonight was much quieter than A Noisy Walk that I had last night. No loud fireworks this evening.

One of my resolutions for the year is to get back walking. This summer I had twisted my knee and I got out of the habit of walking each day. I need to really get started again.

Hillsdale County, Michigan, South Bend, Indiana,Rowe Family, Ransom TownshipI also need to get back keeping track of my Virtual Hike and write a few more posts. I am a bit behind, but also not as far as I should be on my virtual journey across the country. The last segment that I wrote about was A Virtual Hike to Hillsdale County, Michigan  back in September. I have about four segments to write about to catch up.

I did make it over 1,000 miles for the year, but barely.

night sky, snapshot of orion, Orion, constellation, Evening WalkIt was nice out walking tonight. The temperature was not too cold and there was a very clear sky. I could see Orion up in the sky and many other constellations and stars.

The overstory, richard powersWhile walking I was also thinking of some of my reading challenges and reading goals for the year. The first one to work on is my Predict the Pulitzer challenge. I always try and read the Pulitzer for Fiction before it is announced in April. Last year one of my predictions was the winner.

colson whitehead, Nickel BoysAt the site where I check which books are probable winners The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead is currently at the top of the prediction list and I have already read it. However, Whitehead recently won a Pulitzer for The Underground Railroad so is unlikely to win again this year.

Boxcar children, children's books, series, readingI am also going to read some books from classic children series this year. I am not sure how many of each series I will read. Some of these series are still in production and have more than 100 titles. The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner is an example as it now has 153 titles in the series. I recently reread the first book in the series.

Trixie Belden, YA Series, MysteriesI have also been reading some of the books in the Trixie Belden series as well as the first of the Hardy Boys books. Nancy Drew, The Bobbsey Twins and Tom Swift series are also ones I may read selected titles from.

Now to get ready for some good sleep as I have to get back to the commute tomorrow. At least I have a nice new car to commute in 🙂
