Back to the Library

Today I was finally able to go to the library again. I received an e-mail that I had a book to pick up, and that the library was open for limited hours. However, it was only open for curbside pickup.library partially open, library, welcome back, covid 19The pickup was actually in the lobby, but that was enough for me to finally get a book that I have been waiting for for over three months.

Fortunately the due dates kept getting extended or I would have big fines.

Is your library back open?

Don’t Fowled it Up

As the day was drawing to an end I was trying to come up with an idea for a blog post.

I had been watching Holey Moley and then the new game show Don’t came on. One of the challenges was called Don’t Use Fowl Language and required the participants to identify whether celebrities had a bird in their name.

Did they limit the names to those birds that were fowls?

No they didn’t, Don’t fowled this one up.

Fowl are birds, but not all birds are fowls.

Do you know the difference?

Chickens, Barnyard, Red Chickens, LayersA chicken is a fowl.

Columba livia - Rock Dove or Rock PigeonA pigeon is not a fowl.

Male Turkey, Gobbler, Turkish Turkey, Thanksgiving, Native American BirdA turkey is a fowl.

Western Scrub Jay, Aphelocoma californica, birds, Backyard, SpringA Western Scrub Jay is not a fowl.

Wood Duck, Aix Sponsa, Carolina Duck, Stream, High ParkA Wood Duck is a fowl.

Western Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea), Owls, Big EyesA Western Burrowing Owl is not a fowl.

For a bird to be a fowl it has to be of either the Galliformes or Anseriformes orders. The Galliformes are gamefowl or landfowl and the Anseriformes are waterfowl.

Many of the birds that are eaten are fowl, but not all of them. Emu and Ostrich are not fowl, but are commonly eaten. Not all fowl are poultry. Poultry are domesticated fowl. It can be confusing.

Just a few things about this post.

Please ignore any grammar or spelling mistakes 🙂 they are intentional.

All the bird pictures in this post were taken by me.

The turkey picture was actually taken in turkey. See: Turkey Turkeys
