Historic Bridges

Friday is the 88th anniversary of the February 26, 1933 groundbreaking for the Golden Gate Bridge.

This has me thinking of historic bridges.

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Fort Point, SightseeingHere we see a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge taken from the Marin Headlands.

Mossdale Bridge - San Joaquin River - Final Link in Transcontinental Railroad - Railroad Bridge - Reflections - Vertical Lift DrawbridgeThe Mossdale Bridge crosses the San Joaquin River in the Central Valley of California.

The bridge was completed on September 1969 about four months after the final spike was driven at Promontory Summit. This bridge is the  Final Link in the transcontinental railroad.

In California the railhead was in Sacramento until the completion of the Mossdale Bridge.

Burgau Bridge, Burgau Germany, Jena Germany, Stone Bridge, Old Bridge, Saale RiverThis is the Burgauer Brücke in Jena-Burgau, which is in the south part of Jena, Germany.

The bridge was built on the site of an older wooden bridge. The older bridge was in existence by at least 1484. The wooden bridge was replaced by a stone bridge sometime in the late 1400’s or early 1500’s.

Cambridge, Bridges, Punters, Cambridge University, River CamHere are some old bridges spanning the Cam River in Cambridge, England.

Gaoqiao, Song Dynasty, China, Old BridgeThis is an old stone bridge that was built in the Song Dynasty town of Gaoqiao. The area is now part of the Pudong district in Shanghai, China.

I hope you enjoyed these picture of historic bridges.

More Move Prep

Today I went to the office again to continue preparing for our move.

bookshelf, empty bookshelf, manuals, moveIt was really hard to look at empty bookshelves that have been full of manuals for many years. We will not be able to have rows of paper manuals at our new office since most every thing is digital today. I will miss the coziness of being surround by books while working.

My cube full of years of memories is now condensed down to only one moving box.

office, memories, ZeissThe times that I will be going to our office where we have been working for more than 20 years are quickly dwindling. We still have some packing to do in our training rooms, which will take some time.

zeiss, dublin, zeiss inovation centerI have not been in our new building yet, but I have been watching the construction on a webcam.

Today as I headed for home I drove by to get a few pictures.

zeiss, dublin, zeiss inovation centerIt won’t be long and we will be working in a shiny new building when not working from home.

Lots of memories today.
