Tonight was the season finale for The Curse of Oak Island. I was somewhat disappointed that a couple story lines were not further developed, but perhaps this is part of the suspense for next year.
Last week the teaser showed a clip where someone mentioned that there was evidence of treasure. This ended up being in reference to the testing of the water in the bore holes.
As to items found that were shown in this episode, there was a possible weight for a scale found along the stone road and a piece of wood from deep in the swamp that could possibly be from a ship.
There are some markings on the item thought to be a weight and the size is close to a troy ounce, so this may be interesting.
Last week they found an item along the shore with a metal detector that they were all excited about. This turned out to be a lead seal that could have been used as a bag seal.
I was hoping that they would provide more information about the seal this week, as it has been fairly simple to find out more about the seal on the internet.
A similar seal was found in the Jamestown, so it gives us at least a possible date of the early 1600’s.
The symbols on the seal point to an origin of Norwich, England which was a center of weaving in the 1600’s.
It is also known that it would date to earlier than 1705 as they stopped using seals in Norwich at that time.
The date is more important that the place where the seal came from as fabric was shipped to many places from the production centers.
They did take a sediment sample from the bore hole that showed the most evidence of Zinc, Copper and Silver and there was very little shown on the floor of the hole. This was interpreted as the large deposit of treasure being located nearby and that the water was circulating through channels or soft ground transporting the elements to the bore hole area.
Does this point to treasure? We will have to wait until next year to find out.
Speaking of next year, there are all indications that there will be a new season. However, I have not see this confirmed.
What will be seen next year?
Definitely there will be a large dig in the swamp with some method of holding back the water from the dig area.
They also brought up the possibility of the previously proposed big dig in the money pit area. The big question will be how big will the big dig be.
Next year may be very exciting based on some of the things they have already talked about doing during the next season. They will also have a long off season to do more research.
I am not sure when they begin their work, but they may already be working again on Oak Island. If not, they are surely staging equipment for the season.
I missed the Digging Down episode this week which was about different theories, so I may have to go back and watch it.
Perhaps I will propose an interesting theory based on some things I found while researching the lead seal.
