Lincoln in Private

This week I have been reading Lincoln in Private: What His Most Personal Reflections Tell Us About Our Greatest President by Ronald C. White.

president lincoln, notes to self, greatest president, biography, ronald c. WhiteThe book looks at notes that Lincoln wrote to himself throughout his life. The notes give a glimpse into what Lincoln was thinking about and help us better understand him as a person.

The author talks about a dozen of the notes or fragments that were found and ties them to events in our history. I have yet to read through them, but the book contains the text od over 100 notes that he wrote. It is thought that he wrote many more than this, but these are the ones that have survived.

Presidents Washington and Lincoln - Presidents' Day - Marx Presidential FigurinesIf you are a regular reader of my blog you already know that Lincoln is one of my favorite Presidents. I still have a lot to learn about Lincoln as I have a stack of books in my library  almost as tall as myself that are about Lincoln and many of them have yet to be read.

Abraham Lincoln, Books, Lincoln's Birthday, Reading ListLincoln Books, Sandburg series, biography, Lincoln's BirthdayAt some point I need to read the six volume work by Carl Sandburg, especially the first two volumes on the Prairie Years.

However, instead of reading what I have at home I read a new book from the library 🙂

Lincoln's Birthday - President Lincoln - Greatness Alone is not Enough - Education - President LincolnLike Lincoln, I will often write notes to myself about something that I have thought about or studied. Sometimes these notes mature into something that I will share here, or they may just lie unnoticed for years till I happen to pick them up and read them again.

Wednesday Word Search – Eat

Welcome to another Wednesday Word Search where I pick a word and share some of the images I find in an image search of the blog.

Awhile back I searched for ‘hat’ and ‘bat’ so started a theme of ‘?at’ words. Last week I searched for ‘dat’ so will continue on.

The word for tonight is: Eat

Eat should be interesting. Will they all be related to food?

What images will I find?

Great Dane, Large Dog, Buenos Aires, ArgentinaHow about me and a Great Dane in Bueno Aires, Argentina?

Mixer, Beaters, Licking the Beater, cooking, baking, high chairHere is my sister licking a beater.

Eating Watermelon, Watermelon Break, Archaeology, Lachish, Israel, DigHere I am eating watermelon during a break while digging at Lachish.

Child with head poked in an opening of the Great Wall of China at Badaling. Why this picture? It is a little boy sticking his head through a hole in the Great Wall.

Old Football Cleats, 1930 Football Cleats, Old Football Picture, Tarkio Missouri, High School FootballHere are some old football cleats. See Old-Time Photography V for the rest of this picture of a football team my grandfather played for.

I have more images for ‘eat’ but my usual number to share is five, so I will bring this to a close.

These images show that ‘eat’ is a sequence used in several words.

Which is your favorite ‘eat’ picture?

What should I search for next? It will probably continue with the next ?at word. I don’t have many ‘fat’ words, but there are enough for a post 🙂
