Season 9 of The Curse of Oak Island came to an end this evening.
It was interesting to see how they wrapped up the season and talked about some of the future work they plan on doing.
They reached bedrock in the final large can of the season. They did not bring up too much, but it does look like they cut through a very old unknown tunnel. They found very old saw pit cut timbers that would most likely be pre-searcher and also an old metal fastening piece.
They also found what Carmen Legge identified as a rock drill. This could have been use to dig through rock or to create a cavern in the rock.
They also met with a team of researchers who work with muon tomography. They have an interesting imaging technique and it looks like they will be able to get some good scans of what is going on under the surface. However, the scans will take months to complete. This means the results will not be available until near the start of the next season (which is sure to happen).
They also talked a little more about the stone path they were following toward the money pit. It is definitely not as advanced as the stone road that is on the edge of the swamp.
They also did some more metal detecting and found another ox shoe. They have found quite a bit of evidence that oxen were used to haul items across the island. What were they hauling?
They also talked about some early Portuguese connections to the bay where Oak Island is located which may further support them being involved in the island.
Now that we have the season finale, we can see the conclusion of the story they have been constructing throughout the year. They have now shown us what they have found that fits the narrative. But, is it the right narrative?
The presentation of season 9 has now been completed, ending with drilling holes to pace muon detectors that will now gather data over the months until the next season.
I have not seen an announcement of a new season, but it is very apparent that there will be one. In fact, they are probably already starting to do work on the island and are also looking at the results of the muon tomography data collection.
There may be a few special episodes shown before the next season, which has been common in the past, but the next season will not air until November based on the history of the show.
I was hoping for a bit more in the season finale, but you can only show what you have found. They definitely built up some suspense and interest for another season.
