Through the Flood

This morning as I left for services I was a bit worried about how the roads would be. Would I see some flooding? Would I have to take a detour?

central valley, floods, flooding, water, storm, detourUnfortunately, the answers were yes. As I started out of town I saw a lot of water off to the side of the road.

central valley, floods, flooding, water, storm, detourI had to drive through water in several places, and even had to make a detour at one place near Patterson. Fortunately, the detour was not very long.

central valley, floods, flooding, water, storm, detourOn the way I had to drive through water at this place, but it had dried out by the time I headed back home a couple of hours later.

central valley, floods, flooding, water, storm, detourMany of the orchards along the way were flooded and waters were up to the edge of the pavement.

central valley, floods, flooding, water, storm, detourThere were also some power lines being repaired near a railway crossing.

I am glad that I wasn’t driving through here during the storm yesterday. Several inches of rain fell yesterday, and coupled with high winds it would have been dangerous.

2023 Calendars

Tomorrow I will hang up my calendars for 2023.

2023 calendars, calendars, bald eagles, Jane Austen, Main Street, BarnsI ordered my calendars just before Thanksgiving from Calendars.com and they arrived earlier this month.

2023 calendars, calendars, bald eagles, Jane Austen, Main Street, BarnsThe first calendar I placed in my cart was one of Barns. This is what I usually have hanging above my computer each year. I like to see the pictures as they change each month.

For the second year in a row they have not had the one from National Geographic. Perhaps I need to order earlier in the year. This one hangs in my kitchen by the refrigerator.

2023 calendars, calendars, bald eagles, Jane Austen, Main Street, BarnsThe third calendar is one that has pictures of Main Streets from the Midwest. I ordered a mini-calendar of this one last year, and decided to order the full size one this year. It will hang in my kitchen.

Last year the picture for the month of my birth was of the Main Street in the town I was born in. This year one of the months has a picture from Main Street in the town I graduated from.

2023 calendars, calendars, bald eagles, Jane Austen, Main Street, BarnsThe fourth calendar is one with Jane Austen quotes from her books. I look forward to seeing the quotes each month. Not sure where this one will hang yet.

I do not yet have the calendar for my bathroom, but I sometimes go several weeks or even months without turning the page, so it can wait. A Hawaiian calendar usually hangs there. I just need to pick it up the next time I go to the office. One of my former students sends me one each year.
