Wednesday Image Search – Far

Welcome to another Wednesday Image Search where I pick a string of letters or a word and share some of the images I find in an image search of the blog.

Last week I searched for ‘ear.’ This week I will search for ‘far.’

What images will I find?

Bauernfrüstück, Farmer’s Breakfast, potato omelette with egg, roasted potatoes, onions, baconThe first image is of a Farmer’s Breakfast at the Kartofelhaus in Jena, Germany. I always enjoy this dish when I visit Jena.

iowa farmer, FFA, Braman, Hamburg Iowa, Council BluffsHere is a scan of an article about my Dad when he became an Iowa Farmer in the FFA.

Wells Fargo Stage Wagon, Museum, San Francisco, Concord StageHere is a Wells Fargo stagecoach in a museum in downtown San Francisco. I took this while waiting for a new passport. My old one had filled up and I was kept from flying to South Africa. I was halfway there and had to come back home to renew the passport.

Thomas Hardy, Far from the Madding Crowd, Covid-19 Cover StoryNext we have the cover of Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. This is from my Penguin Popular Classics collection that takes up almost an entire bookshelf.

Harvest of Progress - Statue - Tracy, California - Railroad and Farm - Railroad ConductorFinally, we have the sculpture Harvest of Progress which features a Farmer and a Rail Man standing back to back. These were the two main industries in our town in the early years.

There were a lot of  ‘far’ pictures to choose from. It is interesting what words have ‘far’ in them. I hope you enjoyed my selections.

Which is your favorite of these ‘far’ pictures?

What should I search for next?  I have started a new series with ‘?ar’ so the next one will probably be ‘gar.’

Oak Island – The Well and the Blob

Season 10 of The Curse of Oak Island continues to show new discoveries and theories.

This week on Oak Island they were drilling the second new borehole in the Blob area. They also continued to investigate a well on Lot 26 which has been a bit mysterious in the past.

After no metal detecting last week they started exploring the area near the well and found some interesting items including a pipe tamper.

Curse of Oak Island, History Channel, Did they find anything?Of course, one thing to remember is that the dig season is already over. They have taken the time to determine how to present things each week to build suspense and keep viewers tuned in.

oak Island, Money Pit, Mahone BayThey started by clearing the area around the well to explore it in more detail. The rocks around the well were uncovered so that they could better determine the structural layout of the well.

The well is not far from the Samuel Ball home and they want to find if there is a connection.

A set of items found with metal detecting near the well were taken to the blacksmith for evaluation and were found to be parts of bush scythes. These were commonly used to clear areas of vegetation and could have been used by a ships crew that landed on the island. The type of scythe points to them being from the mid 17th century, so before any know occupation of the island.

Hmm, I wonder if the well was a landmark and people came back to recover something hidden on a previous trip and need to clear brush to find where it was buried?

The team took the old half coin to be analyzed at a university. Laser ablation was used and it showed that the metal most likely came from the Iberian peninsula and from the time of the Roman Empire.

oak island, curse of oak lsland, satellite, money pitIn the Blob, the second borehole brought up some wood that may have been from a collapsed tunnel heading toward the Garden Shaft.

An update was given on the Garden Shaft project and it looks like approval was imminent.

In the preview of the next episode they showed the draining of the well and that there were some finds being analyzed. They also showed work starting on the Garden Shaft, so the approval was given to resume. They also showed a diagram with lines from Nolan’s Cross intersecting at the Garden Shaft.

It looks like it will be interesting next week.

What will they find?
