Time for Summer

Today was the first full day of summer. A day that begins the favorite season for many of you.

Perhaps many of you will be taking a summer vacation.

I remember a post about summer vacation that I wrote soon after I started Braman’s Wanderings. Here are a some excerpts with some pictures to illustrate the thoughts:

Summer Vacation! These words alone can bring back many memories of our childhood. Today, on the first day of summer, I am reminiscing about the time when these words meant a full summer of time off. Goodbye to spring with blossoming trees and pretty flowers and on to summer.

Ashland High School, Ashland Kansas, 1963, School Dedication, Architectural DrawingAs the school year drew to a close and summer would draw near, I would always think of the many things that I was going to do during summer vacation.

Bible Camp in Iowa - Kamp Keoma - Bible Class at camp - Old Time Bible CampPlaying Baseball, Bible Camps, Scout Camp, lots of reading, family vacations and trips to see grandparents in California or Iowa. Of course, one year summer vacation meant Drivers Ed and getting my license.

Electric Mower, Mowing the Yard, Lawn Care, Green Grass, Winter GrassSummer also meant lots of time either riding or pushing a mower and many little projects like cleaning the garage.

Fire Works - 4th of July - Most Liked Posts - Holiday FireworksAnother fun prospect for the summer was working in the Boy Scout fireworks stand.

graduation party, cap and gown, church buildingAfter graduating from High School, I soon found out that summer time was no longer just a vacation. The night of graduation I received a phone call with a job offer and there went that last long summer vacation.

Graduation, DeVry, Cap and Gown, TasselEven during college I did not have long summer vacations as I went to school year round, and would work through most of each semester break. Welcome to the adult world.

Baseball - Oakland A's - Baseball Stadium - Summer Pasttime - America's Favorite SportToday when summer comes I look forward to baseball season, but now as a spectator and not a player.

What is your favorite season?

Wednesday Image Search – Bir

Welcome to another Wednesday Image Search where I pick a string of letters or a word and share some of the images I find in an image search of the blog.

Last week I searched for ‘air’ so this week I will continue on with ‘bir’. There will be some gaps in this sequence as not all combinations will find images.

What images will I find?

sialia mexicana, western bluebird, bird in puddleThe first image is of a Western Bluebird in a puddle. This was in the parking lot at work.

Biernen-pfanne, Cafe Stilbruch, German Cuisine, Thuringer CusineHere is one of my favorite dishes: Birnen-pfanne at Cafe Stilbruch in Jena, Germany.

Birthday Cake, 4th Birthday, KitchenHere are my sister and I with a birthday cake with four candles.

SR-71 Blackbird, Lockheed, Castle Air Force Base, Atwater California, Fastest Jet, Blackbird Nose, Blackbird ProfileHere we have the nose of an SR-71 Blackbird. This is at an outdoor museum in the Central Valley of California.

Sea Gull at Cayucos, CaliforniaFinally we have A White Bird Flying at Cayucos, California. The title of the picture comes from a book by Bess Streeter Aldrich

There were quite a few ‘bir’ pictures to choose from. I hope you enjoyed my selections.

Which is your favorite of these ‘bir’ pictures?

What should I search for next?  I will probably continues a series with ‘cir’ as the next one. However there a a lot of ‘?ir’ combinations with no search results.
