A Visit to Suzhou

Yesterday we made a trip to Suzhou to visit the production line for the product I am working with this week.

This morning I will just share some images and later will write more about this interesting city.

Fish in China, Cuisine, Suzhou, Chinese Food

Before visiting the factory we first stopped for a very nice lunch. One of the items we had for lunch was a very delicious fish.

Jinji Lake, Suzhou, China

The restaurant where we had lunch is at Jinji Lake in Suzhou which is very scenic. The day was very foggy, but sometimes that makes for a unique picture.

Bridge, Suzhou, China, Jinji Lake

There are many bridges in Suzhou. This is one that we crossed to get to the restaurant at Jinji Lake.

Old Town Suzhou, Canal, River boat, China

After visiting the factory we visited an old area of Suzhou that is along one of the historic canals.

We had a very light dinner along the canal while watching the boats ply up and down the waterway.

Suzhou is a very interesting place. I will have to visit again someday.

Passageways

This morning I was looking through pictures from my walk on Sunday and settled on a theme of passageways.

This has a much deeper meaning to me as I heard of the passing of one of my former students this morning.

Passageway, hallway, red lantern, Shanghai, China

This red lantern is in a memorial hall for a painter who worked near the Old Chinese Bridge that I shared pictures of earlier this week.

Chinese Alleyway, Red lanterns, Shanghai, Old China

The area is full of little alleyways and some of them are quite interesting. I like this row of red lanterns. There is so much of life in this picture if you look closely.

China, Shanghai, Pudong, Alleyway, Rain This alleyway is much narrower and not as colorful. However, it shows how close together many of the building are in this area.

Power Lines, China, Pudong, Shanghai, small street

Here is a small street with some old buildings. What I find interesting in this picture are the power lines. Especially the fine network that is silhouetted in the sky.

Small Street, Power LInes, Pudong, China

Here is a view of another small street. You could see buildings from different eras as you walked along the street, but they all seemed to tie together. Perhaps it was the network of overhead power and communication lines that pulled it all together 🙂

Like in many countries, China has great contrast between the old and the new. It was nice to see much more of the old on Sunday.
