Today I will share some pictures that I took last night of the Lujiazui skyline.
Lujiazui is in the Pudong area of Shanghai. When you see pictures of the Shanghai skyline this is the area that is normally shown as it has a cluster of very tall buildings.
We were walking along the Bund in Shanghai and these pictures are all taken across the Huang River. The Bund is very long, so you will see the relationships between the buildings of the skyline change as the angles change.
At the right of this picture is a cluster of three buildings that were all at one time in the top three tallest buildings in the world.
Here you can already see that the angles have changed and the three buildings line up from shortest to tallest.
The Jin Mao Tower at 421 meters (1,380 feet) was the third tallest building in the world when it finished construction in 1999. It has now slipped to 27th on the list of tallest buildings. It is the building with the whitish spire on top.
Next in line is the Shanghai World Financial Center. It is 492 meters (1,614 feet) and was the second tallest building in the world when it finished construction in 2008. It has now slipped to 11th on the list of tallest buildings. It is the building that is lit up in blue.
All the way on the right is the Shanghai Tower. It is 632 meters (2,073 feet) and was the second tallest building in the world when it finished construction in 2015. It is still the second tallest behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Here Jin Mao is disappearing behind the buildings in front and it now looks like one of the buildings has acquired a spire.
I really like this picture with the reflections of the lights in the river.
The structure to the left of the picture is the Oriental Pearl Tower. It is 470 meters (1,535 feet) so is actually taller than the Jin Mao Tower. However, it is not considered in the Tallest Buildings in Word list since it is a structure and not a building.
In this picture we again see a big shift in the relative positions of the buildings.
I really like this picture as the full moon has also joined in the picture.
Also the Oriental Pearl Tower looks taller than the rest, but it is just because it is much closer.
This skyline has really changed over the years since I have been coming to Shanghai. I first saw the Jin Mao Tower shortly after it was completed.
I though that this was an interesting view of the four structures. Here you only see the top part of the structures so it is easier to see their relative heights.
I also just happened to catch a heart at the top of Shanghai Tower.
