Dumpling Soup

Today for lunch I had dumpling soup.

Each day our cafeteria has a grill special, a main special, a vegetarian special (which is often a non-meat version of the main special) and a soup. Plus there are other grill items, a salad bar and sandwiches if you don’t want the specials.

My Monday morning routine at work is to pick up the menu for the week and decide what I will have each day, or perhaps decide which days I will go out to eat.

Hmm, I am already side tracked on what my post was going to be about.

I was simply going to share a few images that are running through my head because I am thinking about the dumpling soup I had in the cafeteria.

shanghai Dumplings, POrk Dumplings, Nanxiang xiaolong, Award WinningOf course I am thinking about the wonderful Shanghai Dumplings that I usually have when I visit there.

Shanghai Dumplings, Minced Pork, Chinese Food, Chinese New YearThere is a restaurant near my office that has Shanghai Dumplings on their menu. They are good, but not the same.

Dumplings, Vinegar, Peppers, Garlic, Cabbage DumplingsChinese style dumplings are nice comfort food. Especially if you have the right sauce to dip them in.

Yu Yuan Dumplings, Pork Dumplings, Juicy Dumplings, Bamboo SteamersIt is really nice to get a tray of freshly steamed dumplings. They taste so wonderful.

Bamboo steamer, chinese food, mantou, steamed breadI have a bamboo steamer that I have used a few times to steam dumplings that I have bought at Ranch Market.

Now I may just have to stop on my way home from work next week to pick some up.

So, how was the dumpling soup? It was actually pretty good, but could have been much better 🙂

Now for a bedtime snack as I am hungry.

Taiwan Memories

I have a friend who recently visited Taiwan and has been posting pictures this week. Of course, this is bringing back memories of a trip that I took to Taiwan back in 2010.

Lanterns, Lukang Mazu, Taiwan, Taipei, TempleSo, tonight you get to see a few of my memories.

I will start with lanterns at the Lukang Mazu Temple. Mazu or Tianhou is the Goddess of the Sea in Buhdist culture. Lukang is on the Western shore of Taiwan.

Stinky Tofu, Shilin night market, Taiwain, TaepeiOne of the places that we had to go to was the Shilin Night Market. They had many interesting food choices, but what I was really looking forward to trying was the Stinky Tofu. It has a very unique taste.

I am wondering if my friend went to the Shilin Night Market. I have not seen any pictures from there yet.

Shenkeng Tofu Street, Taipei, Taiwan, Food, Culinary TourismWhile thinking of tofu I am also remembering a visit to Shenkeng Township which is the Tofu Capital. The street shown above was lined with shops selling tofu. My hosts were looking for a special type of yellow tofu that is from Shenkeng.

We found a restaurant that served it and had a wonderful dinner that included some really tasty fish along with the tofu.

Wok, Taipei, Taiwan, Cooking, Large WokSince I am thinking about food. I also remember this picture that I took of two kids carrying a big wok. They were nice enough to pose for me.

Taiwan, Taepei, BBQ, RestaurantHmm, my memories wandered to food in this post so I will close it with a picture of a restaurant where we had some wonderful BBQ. We cooked different meats, vegetables and fish over a charcoal grill.

I may just have to take another trip to Taiwan sometime.
