Tonight I finally got around to cleaning the drain of my bathroom sink.
Overtime my drain slowly gets blocked with debris. This sink is where I shave, trim and clip so there gets to be a buildup of gunk.
I always think about it when I am getting ready for something and put off cleaning until I have time.
However, it finally came to the point that I needed to do something so I went and got my work bucket from the garage and removed the trap.
I was a bit surprised that the trap was not clogged and was pretty much clear. It did have some gunk but nothing that would block the flow.
I then removed the stopper and found the root cause of why it was draining slowly. I thought I had taken a picture, but maybe it was good that I didn’t. It was not pretty. There was a large mass of biological material trapped in the lifting mechanism.
Now the drain is all clean and it is draining properly again.
I always use the example of a slowly draining sink when I talk about the causes of glaucoma and how to treat it when I teach class. I need to make sure that I treat my drain when the symptoms start to appear next time.
