Back in early February I cut back my Agapanthus plant. I had not cut it back since I planted it many years ago.
Here is my Agapanthus in full bloom a couple years ago. You can see how large the leaves have gotten over time.
Here is what it looked like in February when I first cut it back. You can see there was a lot going on below the leaves. I was worried whether it would come back or not after I was finished.
Before long I started to see some growth and felt better about cutting it back.
Here it looks even better. I also noticed in the local park that lilies that had been cut back were also rapidly growing back. It was the cutting back of the lilies that made me decide to do the same in my backyard.
This picture was taken a couple days ago and it really looks better. I am hoping that I will see some scapes start to appear, but they usually don’t until May.
I am definitely feeling better about cutting my Agapanthus back.
