Sloat House, Sloatsburg, New York, Van DuzerThe virtual hike finally made it to Sloatsburg where the Van Deursen family first moved to from New Amsterdam. The house shown here was first the home of Isaac Van Deursen before he moved further north to Cornwall. This was were his Great Grandson John Drake Sloat was later born. You can learn more about John Drake Sloat and the claiming of California in my post: Claiming California

The next destination on my Virtual Hike is to where the Van Duersen family first came to in New Amsterdam.

I have been setting shorter distances between destinations for better motivation for my daily walking and so far it has been working. I have been walking more each day and have made good progress on my Virtual Hike. I am still a few stops behind on my posts.

I am almost finished heading south down through, or near, the Hudson River Valley. After visiting the big city, I will go down through New Jersey and into Pennsylvania. I have some interesting stops planned as I make my way west.
