Tonight I am thinking about Osmaniye, Turkey. The city has been hard hit by the earthquakes this week and they are working to rescue people and start the recovery process. I have seen several articles about people coming from long distances to help in the rescue efforts.
I visited Osmaniye back in 2014 when on a tour of Turkey.
At the entrance of the city of around 200,000 people is a large statue of a woman harvesting peanuts. The city is famous for the groundnut or peanut.
There were several shops in the city center that sold nuts, especially peanuts.
Here is a street corner in Osmaniye showing the typical structure of the buildings.
Our main purpose of visiting Osmaniye was for lunch. We had lunch at a restaurant in the downtown which was known for skewered meat.
The downtown area was full of pedestrians who were heading out to lunch or perhaps just shopping.
It is sad to think of the devastation there this week. I hope that they will soon be able to recover from the hardships brought on by the earthquake.
