Oak Island – Back to the Swamp

Season 10 of The Curse of Oak Island continues to show new discoveries and theories.

This week on Oak Island the rehabilitation of the Garden Shaft had been put on hold due to changes in the scope of the project. It has been classed as a mining operation which has tighter regulations.

Curse of Oak Island, History Channel, Did they find anything?Of course, one thing to remember is that the dig season is already over. They have taken the time to determine how to present things each week to build suspense and keep viewers tuned in.

oak Island, Money Pit, Mahone BayWith the Garden Shaft project on hold they focused on other projects, including a new scanning technique that will eventually survey the entire island. They started by running scans in the swamp and the scans will then be analyzed.

They also continued to drill bore holes in the Money Pit area looking for shafts and tunnels. They are continuing to follow a tunnel as they progress toward the Garden Shaft.

The first bore hole they showed this week did not come up with any results.

The second bore hole found a cavity at a greater depth that where the tunnel would have been found. They dropped a camera down the almost 150 foot bore hole to the cavity to see what they could see. They found some interesting jumble of rocks at the bottom, with some indication that they may have been shaped.

More information was given on the copper artifact that was recently found. The composition analysis shows that it is a copper/zinc/lead alloy that would be considered brass. The item would have definitely come from Europe and it is known the the Vikings often used brass to clad different items. There is now a theory that there may have been early Norse visits to Oak Island, based on other objects that have been found in recent years.

In the preview of the next episode they showed them dropping a sonar device into the latest bore hole. Could this be the offset chamber they have suspected? The results of the swamp scan were being discussed and also they announced that they had bought a section of the island that had previously been off limits and they showed that something was found while metal detecting the area.

It looks like it will be interesting next week.

How long before they resume the Garden Shaft project?

What will happen next?
